Not every brand can last 100 years. The few that do have a few things in common. Traits like a commitment to quality and integrity. Century brands are attentive and inventive, recognizing customer needs and seeking out solutions. And they are flexible, able to pivot with both societal and scientific changes. Gordon’s® is one of those brands, now celebrating 100 years of success.
Founded in 1924 by George C. Gordon, the Gordon Chemical Company developed and sold paint thinners, pesticides, and other products through farm stores, lumber yards, and hardware stores. Through a commitment to innovation and service, the company grew steadily and was purchased in 1956 by Private Brands Incorporated – the company that would become PBI-Gordon Corporation.
Over the decades that followed, the Gordon’s brand came to represent quality and value to our farm and home customers, and innovation and integrity to our vendors and partners.
The employee-owners of PBI-Gordon Companies want to offer our sincere thanks to all the homeowners, vendors, and employee-owners who made Gordon’s century of success possible.
Trimec® was an innovation that truly changed turf care. Originally named “Fairway” and marketed to golf course superintendents, it combined three active ingredients that worked better together than they did on their own. Trimec is often described as proof that in chemistry, sometimes 2+2+2=10, meaning the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It controlled a wide spectrum of broadleaf weeds without harming turfgrass. The Trimec line has innovated and expanded over its 50 years on the market, the latest version being Trimec Platinum All-In-One Weed Control from Gordon’s: One product to control broadleaf weeds and labeled grassy weeds.
Since glyphosate-resistant weeds began popping up across the countryside, property owners have called for a different non-selective weed control option. Barrier® Year-Long Vegetation Control Concentrate from Gordon’s meets that demand. Barrier features five active ingredients to deliver unbeatable nonselective control that lasts up to a year. It controls weeds and grasses that may be glyphosate-resistant, as well as vines, brush and trees down to the roots. Barrier is ideal for use on fencerows, driveways, around buildings and almost any location where you don’t want any vegetation to grow. It’s a revolution in nonselective weed control.
As the Gordon’s brand steps into another era of making history, it does so with the assurance that the same principles that defined its past will illuminate its path forward. Welcome to the next chapter in the enduring legacy of Gordon’s.
